This Sunday’s concert will be a rare treat: Jonathan Darlington at the piano in a chamber concert together with members of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra. JD decided to dedicate the first concert of his last season as music director in Duisburg to his colleagues:
JD: “I’ve played chamber concerts with the musicians in my first year as music director of the orchestra. So I thought it very fitting to do the same in my last year here. I want to thank them for the many hours of making music together – by making more music together! I’m looking forward to playing with them rather than standing on the podium.”
The programme of the evening includes works by those composers JD has favoured in his programmes:
Edward Elgar: Quintet for piano and string quartet A minor op. 84
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Quintet for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, Es major KV 452
Dmitri Schostakowitsch: Sonata for viola and piano op. 147
Florian Geldsetzer (violin), Nadine Sahebdel (violin), Mathias Feger (viola), Sophia Reuter (viola), Fulbert Slenczka (cello), Martin Schie (oboe), Jens Thoben (clarinet), Ioan Ratiou (horn) and Jens-Hinrich Thomsen (bassoon) will be joining the maestro in this journey from classicism to early modernism.
The concert “Jonathan and Friends” will take place on September 5th, 19h, at the Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg.
